Below is an ongoing progress report of my FIRST mirror grinding project.
3 Hours Grinding!
Ok. 3 hours into this mirror and I am nearly at my target depth. But as you can see, the center of the tool is NOT nearly where it should be. With my Sagitta currently at .0815, and the target being .0833, I'm way too close to continue as I was. If I keep grinding with the mirror on top, I would dig a hole, and go beyond my target.
So, new plan. I changed to "Tool-On-Top" for the grinding. One way to remember what happens is, whatever is on top will grind more in the center. What you have on the bottom will grind more on the edges. This works out well for me, as I need to bring the tool down more in the center, and still wear more on the perimeter of my mirror.
So I'm guessing that when I made the tool, the center tiles were sitting just a bit lower than the edge tiles. No problem. I picked up a little more 80-grit. I just need to grind more to get this mating as it should.
We'll see what it looks like after another hour of grinding time.
