My Mirror Grinding Project
My Mirror Grinding Project
Below is an ongoing progress report of my FIRST mirror grinding project.
Ready to Grind!

I'm all set to make my first telescope from scratch! This will be my first time doing anything like this, and thankfully I have a few club members, as well as the resources and friends online to help me along.
The picture shows all the supplies I need to get started. Of course there is the mirror blank, which is an 8" pyrex blank, the "Tool", and the various grits used to grind the mirror blank.
My tool is made of 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood that I glued and screwed together, and cut to the same diameter as the mirror. I then applied a layer of epoxy to the entire outside to waterproof it, as it will be getting quite wet with the grinding and rinsing I will be doing. On top of this, I epoxied ceramic tiles. It's hard to tell in that picture, but the tiles are NOT centered, but rather offset in 2 directions about the width of the grout lines.
Now, I'm not too familiar with special terminology and techniques. I'll be learning as I go, and doing what I can to make this work. Either way, I'm VERY excited!
Stay tuned!
